AUTHOR GUIDELINES

The 5th International Indonesia Conference on Interdisciplinary Studies (IICIS) 2025

Welcome to the 5th International Conference on Interdisciplinary Sciences (IICIS) 2025. This guideline provides important information for all presenters and authors who will participate in this scientific conference by presenting the process and the results of their research. It also applies to full paper authors who intend to submit their manuscripts for publication in the IICIS Proceedings, nationally accredited Indonesian journals, affiliated with and partnering with us this year.

SCOPE AND FOCUS

Manuscripts (abstracts and full papers) accepted for the 5th IICIS 2025 must be closely aligned with this year’s main conference theme: “Food Security and Strengthening Human Resources.” To reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the conference — which is a core characteristic of IICIS, submitted manuscripts are also expected to align with one or more of the six main topics and 30 sub-topics listed on the official conference announcement page.

Types of manuscripts expected include original research articles, field studies, literary research, and case studies. However, other article types are neither restricted nor prohibited from being submitted by participants. For the 5th IICIS 2025, authors are required to prepare three research-related documents:

  • Abstract – submitted for registration as a presenter at the IICIS conference
  • Presentation slides – to be presented during the IICIS conference
  • Full manuscript – submitted for publication in the IICIS Proceedings or in nationally accredited Indonesian journals that are official partners of this year’s IICIS conference

ABSTRACT

  • Abstract submitted during IICIS registration serves as a summary of the entire article or research report (if the research has been completed) or a summary of the research design (if the research is still ongoing).
  • The abstract title should be concise and reflects the research problem and variables, optionally including the methods. This title also should be clear, understandable, engaging, and informative.
  • Author names should be written without academic degrees and ordered based on contribution and responsibility (indicated by numerical superscripts). The corresponding author must be marked with an asterisk (*).
  • Affiliations should follow the format: department or field, institution, and country.
  • Corresponding email should be the email address of the designated corresponding author.
  • Abstract content should be written in a paragraph of 150 to 300 words, summarizing the research background, research problem or objective, methodology, analytical tools (including core concepts and theories), results or key findings, results, and recommendations (if applicable).
  • Keywords must consist of 3 to 5 words or phrases highly relevant to the research. These may refer to the main object, variables, core concept or main theory, and methodology.
  • The abstract must not include abbreviations (for title), bullet points or enumeration, and citations. Scientific symbols may be used if they are universally understood. Decimal notation should follow international standards using a period symbol (.) as the decimal marker.
  • The abstract must be written in English.
  • The formatting of the abstract (font type, font size, line spacing, layout, and alignment) is as follows:

Title                   : Garamond, 15 pt, single spacing, bold, center-aligned
Author names    : Garamond, 12 pt, single spacing, regular, center-aligned
Affiliation          : Garamond, 12 pt, single spacing, italic, center-aligned
Abstract content : Garamond, 12 pt, single spacing, regular, justified
Keywords           : Garamond, 12 pt, single spacing, regular, left aligned

Page margins should be 3.00 cm on all sides.

  • Line spacing in all abstract part is one line spacing.
  • Space break in abstract part is one line break (pressing Enter twice, between title and authors name, authors name, affiliation, abstact label, abstract body, and keywords).
  • The file format must be .docx, with the entire abstract typed on a single A4-sized page.
  • Submission of the abstract must be made at the time of registration.
  • The official abstract template for IICIS registration can be found in this section.

PRESENTATION SLIDES

  • Presentation slides at the IICIS conference serve as visual aids for authors or presenters to convey a summary of the entire content of their article or research report (if the research has been completed), or a summary of the research design (if the research is still in progress), to the conference audience.
  • The presentation should consist of 7 to 10 slides, covering the following elements:

Opening: contains the research title and the full names of all authors,
Background: explains the research background and problem,
Analytical framework: presents the concepts or theories applied,
Methodology: outlines the approach, data collection, and analysis methods,
Research process (if the research is still ongoing),
Analysis and discussion (if the research has been completed),
Closing: summarizes the conclusion and findings, along with recommendations or suggestions.

  • The duration for each abstract lasts 10 to 15 minutes, excluding Q&A or discussion sessions.
  • All slides and oral presentations must be delivered in English.
  • Presenters are free to use their slide design format. However, we encourage you to consider the following suggestions for effective academic communication:

Ensure the overall design aligns with the research topic or title,
Use proportional fonts, ideally between 20 to 32 pt,
Limit the number of words per slide to a maximum of 60 words,
Try to avoid using overly long text on a single slide,
Use high-quality images for backgrounds and themes,
Summarize complex data using figures, diagrams, and tables,
Refrain from using excessive animations,
Videos may be used as part of the presentation if they do not extend the allocated time.

  • The file format for the presentation slides must be PowerPoint.
  • Presentation slides must be submitted on the day of the conference, either brought directly by the presenting author or their appointed representative or via other submission channels that will be announced later.
  • The presentation slides template for IICIS conference can be found in this section.

FULL ARTICLE

  • A full paper submitted to IICIS is a comprehensive report detailing the entire research process carried out by a researcher or author (s). It includes a well-structured and systematic presentation of the study, covering the research problem, prior studies that informed the research, the concepts and theories applied, the methods employed, observations, critical discussions of the issues, and findings that respond to the research objectives. Ideally, the manuscript should also contain the novelty of the research, as well as recommendations on how the researcher’s work can contribute to solving problems in various fields of the social sciences.
  • Full papers submitted to IICIS 2025 will be published in the Proceedings of the 5th IICIS 2025. High-quality papers, whose authors express interest and agreement, may also be considered for publication in nationally accredited journals in Indonesia affiliated with and partnered by IICIS 2025. For this purpose, authors are encouraged to contact the IICIS 2025 committee directly.
  • The content of each paper must range between 4,000 to 10,000 words, or approximately 6 to 12 pages, excluding the references. The manuscript must present the research substance as an introduction, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions and recommendations.
  • The structure of a manuscript submitted to IICIS should follow the order of sections as outlined below:

Title and author – includes the title, author names, institutional affiliations, abstract, and keywords,

Introduction – presents the research background, core problem, urgency of the issue, research questions and/or objectives, benefits or contributions of the study, relevant prior research, and the concepts and theories used. If needed, this section may be divided into subsections,

Methodology – concisely explains all procedures and describes of how the research was conducted. This includes the research approach, type of study, data collection methods, and data analysis techniques. If necessary, this section may also detail the development of research instruments,

Results and Discussion – presents the main data, research findings, and testing outcomes aligned with the established research objectives. This section should also include a discussion linking the results to relevant concepts and theories, and a critical analysis when appropriate to enrich the research findings. Subsections may be added for better elaboration,

Conclusion and Recommendations – answers the research questions and the key findings derived from the study. This section should also include the researcher’s suggestions or recommendations.

  • Sub-sections are permitted if any of the sections above require further elaboration or a detailed explanation.
  • The formatting of the paper — covering font type, font size, line spacing, alignment, and layout—should follow the specifications below:

Title, author    : Follow the abstract guidelines as previously described.
Introduction   : Garamond, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, regular, justified alignment
Methodology  : Garamond, 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing, regular, justified alignment
